I walked into the utility room tonight to clean the litterbox, and I smelled gas.

So after cleaning the litterbox, I found my billing statement and called the gas company.

I was told to get everybody out of the house & wait at a neighbor's. I crated the cats, put them in my car, and pulled out of the garage to wait on the driveway.

The guy who came was really nice. He said the leak was so small (smaller than the head of an ant) that he didn't know how I could smell it.

Anyway, he was SUPPOSED to turn off the water heater & make me get a repairman -- but he knew that in this town, and with my landlady, that might take until next March or something, so he tried to fix it himself. Evidently the fitting on the pilot is inadequate, but he tightened it as much as he could and declared me safe.

The cats are very confused, but all is well.
